  • About Ryan High School


    Ryan High School was established as its own campus in 1995. The school opened in 1991 as Denton High School – Ryan Campus, while Denton High underwent extensive renovations. Ryan High graduated its first Raiders in 1996. The school is named after Billy Ryan, a former teacher, coach, and administrator for Denton ISD.

    Ryan prides itself on being “The Home of Champions”, having claimed numerous state championships and recognitions in academics, athletics, and fine arts. The campus is known for its tremendous school pride, with all of its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and fans belonging to “Raider Nation.”

    Students at Ryan have the opportunity to take a variety of academic courses, including Advanced Placement, Pre-AP classes, and dual-credit college courses. In addition, Ryan’s UIL academic team has won the district title numerous times and its parliamentary procedures team finished as the national runner-up in 2012. Recent Ryan graduates have gone on to such prestigious academic institutions as Harvard University, Oxford College, University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, University of Virginia, U.S. Air Force Academy, and McGill University in Montreal.

    There are a variety of extracurricular clubs as well with something for every student’s interest.Students can choose from band, choir, art, ROTC, and FFA as well as unique offerings like the I-Tech Club, which focuses on technology, and Ryan’s Angels, which helps disadvantaged students at the school.

    When it comes to athletics, few high schools in the state can match Ryan’s all-around credentials. Raider athletic teams have claimed three football state championships, a boys’ basketball state championship, and state final or semifinal appearances in baseball, girls and boys soccer, softball, swimming, and track and field.
