    Troy and Sarah LaGrone In 2005, the Denton ISD Board of Trustees named the Advanced Technology Complex after the late community benefactors Sarah and Troy LaGrone. In 2021, Denton Independent School District announced the establishment of the LaGrone Academy, a high school of choice, that would sharpen the district’s focus on college and career readiness.

    The LaGrones were active with the Denton Public School Foundation, the organization that provides scholarships and grants to Denton ISD students and teachers. The foundation has three grants-to-teachers funds that were founded by the LaGrone family and friends.

    Before retiring from the Ben E. Keith Company, Mr. LaGrone was instrumental in taking the once small-time distributorship to one of the largest Anheuser-Busch distributors in the nation. He began as a clerk in the company and quickly climbed the ranks to president.

    Mr. LaGrone served on numerous boards, including Denton Chamber of Commerce, Greater Denton Arts Council, Denton Orchestra and Denton Economic Development Corporation. He also served on committees for the Boy Scouts of America and Texas Girls Choir. He served on the board of directors for the University of North Texas.

    Mr. LaGrone passed away on Sept. 27, 2004 and Mrs. LaGrone passed away on Nov. 30, 2004.
