Students at Bettye Myers Middle School have received instructions on digital literacy and digital citizenship using resources from Common Sense Media.Instruction has been provided by the school librarian and student assistance counselor with additional input given by all Myers’ reading teachers.Parents/Guardians please discuss with your child what he/she has learned in regards to Privacy and Security as it relates to Internet Safety, Cyberbullying/Digital Drama, and Creative Credits and Copyright as it relates to using and creating information for the Internet.

Boys, Girls, and Media Messages
In this digital age, it’s important for teens to develop and practice media-literacy skills. Parents, relatives, teachers, and other adult mentors are well positioned to help kids analyze the gender messages they see on TV, at the movies, in ads, in games, and online – and to encourage them not to perpetuate harmful stereotypes.
