In order to provide a continuous counselor/student relationship over the middle school years, RCMS assigns students to counselors by team. Once a learning community is established in 6th grade, those communities mostly stay together through 7th and 8th grades. Assistant Principals and Counselors are also assigned by team. Dr. Carter is the team counselor for 6-1, 7-1, and 8-1. Mrs. Matthews is the team counselor for 6-2, 7-2, and 8-2. This allows counselors to meet with their respective teams during common conference times. The student assistance counselor may see students from either team but mostly focuses on students with ongoing social and emotional needs. Ms. Willis offers groups focusing on specific needs and empowers students with social- emotional learning strategies. She also offers school wide, grade-level classroom guidance about relationships, abuse, bully prevention, and mental health awareness.
