• History of the DHS Fillies
     
    DHS FilliesThe Denton High School Fillies Drill Team was formed in 1968. The Fillies promote school spirit, provide entertainment throughout the entire year, and are active within the Denton County community. The Fillies organization strives to develop leadership, cooperation, sportsmanship, scholarship, and high standards of lady-like conduct and sisterhood.
    The Fillies have been invited to perform in numerous events statewide, and coast to coast, such as advanced competitions, on cruise liners, Walt Disney World, New York City Parades, Texas Motor Speedway events, Dallas Stars Hockey games, and Dallas Cowboys Half-time show.
     
    Recently the officers (dance and social) received top honors at the Danceline Camp.  Awards include: Super Sweepstakes for both Dance and Social Officers, Dance Officers received the Anita Jefferson Conley Award), Top Dance Officer Choreography Piece, Top score of the entire camp in the Comprehensive Leadership Award, Top Technique Award in High Kicks, and the most Respectful team of camp.
     
    The Fillies have won awards such as the Super Sweepstake awards, Gussie Nell Davis Team, Most Admired, Best Technique, Best Choreography, Best Leadership Awards, Top Team Scores, Faith Award, and the Anita Jefferson Conley Officer Award. Individual honors include Miss High Kick of the Year. At the Danceline Competition, recognition has gone to Libby Schleinat for her individual technique in 1st place leaps and 3rd place kicks (2010), Miranda Alfonso (high kick recipient in 2007), Taylor Stewart-1st place soloist of 2001, Jennifer Landes and Neysa King – Best Duet, and 18 Division 1 awards.

    The Fillies are truly committed to community, performing and volunteering, participating in the Denton Arts/Jazz Festival, Corinth Fall Festival, Denton Benefit League, Habitat for Humanity, American Heart Association, St. Judes Children Hospital, Big Brothers and Sisters of Denton, MLK Center summer clinics, Cinco de May Celebration, Denton Kids Unlimited, Denton Dynamos Special Olympics, Miss Argyle Pageant, Denton Outlet Mall Christmas celebrations, and Jr. Fillie Clinics. The Fillies have volunteered for the James Woods Automobile Grand Opening, and many other corporate functions and picnics.

    The Fillies tradition continues from generation to generation, accepting the challenge of following in the dance steps of their sister-line before them. Our motto states: Once a Fillie, Always a Fillie.
