    DHS Deutschklub
     
    (Deutscher Verein)
     
     
    Purpose:  To offer opportunities to experience the German culture and practice the language
    in ways which are not possible in a classroom setting.
     
    Dues: $20 (which includes the cost of the club T-shirt)
     

    We meet twice a month, usually on Tuesdays, from 4:15-5:15pm in room 143.

     
    We plan our activities for the month at that meeting.
    Most of our local events will take place after school or in the early evening.
    Regional and state competitions and other off campus events take place on Saturdays.

    The following events require extra adult assistance.  If you can help in any way, we would greatly appreciate it:

    Homecoming Carneval, Sportfest, Mav’s Night, Winterfest, DHS Language Fair, State German Contest, Deutscher Samstag, miscellaneous others AND the ever popular fundraising!!

    Winterfest, the regional academic and arts contest for German students. 
    Where you measure your skills against other students from over 35 North Texas schools.
     
    State German Contest at UT in Austin.
    If you qualify at Winterfest, you get to compete against the top students from the entire state.
    Students who place in the top five in three individual events are eligible for scholarships up to $500.
    The top five essays receive cash rewards as well.

     

    Deutscher Samstag, a linguistic and cultural immersion event for German students.
    You get to meet others who are learning the language and practice your skills.
    It is a little piece of Germany right here in Texas!

     

    Mav's Night is an opportunity to enjoy a Maverick's basketball game and meet a real, live German!
    You may get to meet superstar B-baller Dirk Nowitzki after the game!
