• The International Baccalaureate Programme

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. Planning for the full Diploma Programme
Students will make the final decision to take the full IB Diplome when they select classes for the 11th grade. We suggest the following course work to prepare.

    Middle School
    Course suggestions:

    • Take honors courses (as many as you feel comfortable taking).
    • Take a language other than English, if it is offered.

Outside Calhoun MS attendance zone consider a transfer to Calhoun but this is not necessary.

    9th grade
    Course suggestions:

    • Honors courses (as many as you feel comfortable taking).
We suggest you take Honors English
    • Take Spanish, French, German, or Latin.
    • Let your counselor know that you are interested in the IB Diploma program.
    • Join the IB Ambassadors club.

Outside of Denton High School attendance zone:You will need to apply for a transfer to DHS. This will require you to attend aDHS IB information session and complete the district transfer forms. You need to do this even if your student has already transferred for middle school.

    10th grade
    Course suggestions:

    • Honors courses (as many as you feel comfortable taking).
    • We suggest that you take Honors English.
    • Take year 2 of a language other than English. If you took ASL* in 9th grade, you need to take year 1 Spanish, French, German or Latin. *
You can take year 2 of ASL if it fits into your schedule, but you must have 3 years of Spanish, French, German or Latin to be a full IB Diploma candidate.
    • Take Economics /AP Economics and Government /AP Government instead of World History.
    • Consider doubling up on Math (Algebra 2 and Geometry) if you would like to get to more advanced math.
    • Set up an appointment with the IB Diploma Coordinator for academic advising.

If you live outside of Denton ISD and you are a transfer to DHS, you must complete the district transfer request each year. If you are inside Denton ISD, you do not need to resubmit a transfer request.

If you are requesting a transfer to DHS for the first time, you need to contact one of the IB Coordinators at DHS.
