Students in the Denton Independent School District will observe a Thanksgiving break from Monday, Nov. 24, through Friday, Nov. 28. All schools will close at their regularly scheduled times and reopen at their regularly scheduled times on Monday, Dec. 1.
Guyer High School violinist Inki Lee and Ryan High School bassist Harry Dearman earned places on the All-State Philharmonic and Symphonic Orchestra, respectively, beating hundreds of competing musicians for the honors.
An advanced welding class from the LaGrone Advanced Technology Complex won $4,000 in cash and equipment, which will be used to help the program grow. Garrett Williams, Preston Simpson, Lane Stewart, Turner Osbun and Colby Wenger won Victor Technologies’ “A Cut Above” contest.
The Harpool Middle School theatre program will perform its first revival musical show, “Seussical, Jr.,” in the school cafetorium Nov. 20-22, providing audiences with entertaining renditions of Dr. Seuss classics.
Motorcycle enthusiasts and community volunteers are partnering with Denton ISD and other Denton County school districts with the fourth annual Coats for Kids Ride at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30. Participants should bring one new coat for a student between the ages of 5 and 18 years old.
Pecan Creek Elementary student artwork will be on display at the school on Dec. 4 for the school’s Winter Art Show, and students will also perform music throughout the evening. The event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will feature each grade level performing a holiday song.
