Board Meetings

  • The Denton ISD Board of Trustees meets regularly in the Board Room of the Dennis Stephens Central Administration Building, 1307 North Locust St., Denton. All meetings are open to the public and are subject to provisions of Texas law. All special meetings and workshops take place at the DENTON ISD Administrative Center unless noted on the schedule below.

Official notices of these meetings will be posted at the Dennis Stephens Central Administration Building at least 72 hours prior to each meeting.

Denton ISD welcomes comments and input from the communities and families we serve. There are many ways to resolve issues and share feedback other than participation at a board meeting. We encourage you to review our communication flow for where to start to resolve issues, and our communication commitments for how to best serve our students and staff.

Public Comment Portal

  • The Public Comment Portal provides community members a way to share written input with the Board outside of a scheduled board meeting. These comments are reviewed by the Board and district leadership as part of the Board’s commitment to listen to community voices.

All citizens have the ability to provide public comment to the Denton ISD Board of Trustees below:

Speaking at a Board Meeting

  • Denton ISD also welcomes in-person comments during the designated Open Forum at its board meetings. Individuals who wish to address the Board at a meeting must register online in advance using the public comment registration link below.

Those who wish to speak at a board meeting often expect a dialogue with the Board of Trustees; however, in accordance with Texas law, the Board is not able to respond directly to comments or questions posed by speakers. Texas law also does not allow the Board to discuss or take action on any issue presented during the public forum unless the item has already been posted for action on the meeting agenda.

Requiring participants to register ahead of time gives individuals and Denton ISD staff an opportunity to seek a resolution prior to the board meeting.

Registration will open when the Board agenda for the meeting is posted, which is typically 72 hours prior to the start of the meeting, and will close at 1:00 p.m. on the day of the Board meeting unless otherwise noted. On-site registration is not available.

If someone lacks the technology necessary to complete the online submission form, they may call the Denton ISD Administrative Office at 940-369-0002 during the required registration window.

Work Sessions, Workshops, and Special Meetings

  • For Work Sessions, Workshops, and Special Meetings, there will also be one Open Forum for public comment. Speakers must register online in advance, and comments are limited to items on that specific meeting agenda.

No presentation shall exceed three minutes and may be adjusted by the presiding officer.

Registration will open at the time the meeting agenda is posted, typically 72 hours prior to the start of the meeting, and will close at 1:00 p.m. the day of the meeting unless otherwise noted.

Guidelines

  • Guidelines for Speaking at a Board Meeting

    • Speakers’ remarks are limited to a maximum of three minutes. The presiding officer may adjust this time limit in order to accommodate the Board’s agenda and the number of speakers registered.
    • Because the business of the Board takes priority, time allotted to speakers on non-agenda items may be reduced, and in some cases, not all speakers on non-agenda items may be called.
    • Each individual is allowed one opportunity to speak per board meeting. Individuals must be present when called or they forfeit their opportunity to speak.
    • Speakers are asked to refrain from sharing personal information about students or naming specific Denton ISD staff members.
    • The Board cannot answer questions, nor can it deliberate on any subject that is not included on the agenda.
    • No late public comment forms will be accepted.

    Speaker Priority

Speakers during the Open Forum will be called in the following order:
    1. Agenda Items – Comments on items posted to the Board’s agenda will be heard first.
    2. Non-Agenda Items – Comments on topics not on the agenda will be heard after all agenda-related speakers.

Within both categories, the following order will apply:
    • Students
    • Parents of current Denton ISD students
    • All others

If multiple speakers fall within the same group, they will be called on a first-come, first-served basis according to registration time.
