Board Meetings
-
The Denton ISD Board of Trustees meets regularly in the Board Room of the Dennis Stephens Central Administration Building, 1307 North Locust St., Denton. All meetings are open to the public and are subject to provisions of Texas law. All special meetings and workshops take place at the DENTON ISD Administrative Center unless noted on the schedule below.
Official notices of these meetings will be posted at the Dennis Stephens Central Administration Building at least 72 hours prior to each meeting.
Addressing the Board
-
Denton ISD welcomes comments and input from the communities and families we serve. There are many ways to resolve issues and share feedback other than participation at a board meeting. We encourage you to review our communication flow for where to start to resolve issues, and our communication commitments for how to best serve our students and staff.
Individuals who wish to address the board during the public comments portion of the board meeting are required to register online ahead of the meeting using the comment registration button below. Those who wish to speak at a board meeting often expect a dialogue with the Board of Trustees, however, in accordance with Texas Law, the Board is not able to respond directly to comments or questions posed by speakers. Texas law also does not allow the Board to discuss or take action on any issue presented during the public forum unless the item has already been posted for action on the meeting agenda. Requiring participants to register ahead of time gives the individuals and Denton ISD staff an opportunity to seek a resolution prior to the board meeting.
Those who wish to participate in public comments are required to register online beginning when the Board Agenda for the meeting is posted, which is typically 72 hours prior to the start of the meeting. This process is required for addressing the Board at all board meetings. Online registration will be available until 1 pm on the day of the Board meeting unless otherwise noted. On-site registration is no longer available for DENTON ISD board meetings.
DENTON ISD staff members will review all submissions and, if necessary, reach out to seek resolution or additional information prior to the meeting.
If someone lacks the technology necessary to complete the online submission form, they can call the DENTON ISD Administrative Office at 940-369-0002. Again, all submissions must be made during the required time period for each board meeting
Guidelines
-
- Speakers remarks are limited to a maximum of three minutes. This time may be adjusted by the presiding officer in order to accommodate a high number of speakers. Comments of a similar nature may be consolidated into one representative comment.
- The Board cannot answer questions, nor can they deliberate on any subject that is not included on the Agenda.
- Speakers are asked to refrain from sharing personal information about your student, or mentioning specific DENTON ISD staff members by name.
- No late Public Comment Forms will be accepted.
- Each individual gets one opportunity to speak per board meeting for the time period allotted by the Board.
- Individuals must be present at the time they are called to provide comment or they forfeit their opportunity to speak.
Work Sessions, Workshops, and Special Meetings
-
In accordance with District Board Policy, only comments addressing items on that specific meeting agenda can be presented during the 1st Open Forum. The 2nd Open Forum allows citizens the opportunity to address the Board on any subject. No presentation shall exceed three minutes.
*Registration will open at the time the meeting agenda is posted, typically 72 hours prior to the start of the meeting. Registration will close at 1 p.m. the day of the meeting unless otherwise noted.
