All students will be out of school for the annual winter break when school doors close on Friday, Dec. 19, until they resume at their regular times Tuesday, Jan. 6. On Dec. 18 and 19, high schools will release students at noon and middle schools will release students at 1 p.m.
The Denton Public School Foundation will host its 13th annual Groundhog Day Gala on Jan. 31, 2015, providing community members with an opportunity to give funds back to Denton ISD students, teachers and staff members.
The College Board honored 152 Denton ISD high school students with distinctions for 2014, according to their annual list of recipients who are named Advanced Placement Scholars. The national program recognizes individuals with exceptional scores in AP courses and on AP exams.
Students at Blanton Elementary recently took part in a pilot program to teach them more about proper nutrition – and they seemed to enjoy the results. With the program, students used a "nutrition score card" to record what they ate each day.
Verizon presented Denton ISD’s Instructional Technology Department with a $5,000 grant on Dec. 8, with the money allowing the district to improve its STEM – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – capabilities with a new summer coding initiative with Raspberry Pi kits.
