Denton ISD Extends Partnership with DATCU
Denton’s local credit union has once again shown its commitment to public education. At a meeting on Tuesday night, Denton ISD’s Board of School Trustees approved an extension of the district’s existing partnership with DATCU that began more than five years ago.
DATCU previously donated $1 million in 2018 as part of a sponsorship deal for Denton ISD’s athletic scoreboards. The new agreement is a 10-year deal worth $1.5 million, extending the partnership through the 2032-2033 school year.
“We are grateful for DATCU’s history of giving back to our community and look forward to how our partnership will give us the ability to better serve our students,” said Denton ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jamie Wilson. “Because we are a rapidly growing school district, we need funds to help us address the rising cost of operational expenses. DATCU’s support is instrumental to maintaining our standard of excellence.”
The extension of Denton ISD’s partnership with DATCU will support more than just athletics and includes the district’s community volunteer programs, service awards, band trailers, new hire orientation, financial literacy courses and more.
“We have a significant history of supporting Denton ISD, and we think it is important to demonstrate our commitment to the community,” said Melanie Vest, DATCU President. “Our public schools produce the next generation of leaders, and we want to make sure they have the best resources possible in all fields.”
Once known as the Denton Area Teacher’s Credit Union, DATCU began in 1936 when area educators collectively sought better financial resources during a time of economic hardship.
What started as a handful of investors pooling together $650 is now one of the largest state chartered credit unions in Texas. DATCU currently has more than 105,000 members and $1.5 billion in assets.
“We are a credit union rooted in supporting education because we were first established by educators,” said Glen McKenzie, DATCU CEO. “This sponsorship agreement provides long-term stability for the district so that they can plan for future success.”
