Mary Martin Named Director of Safety and Security

Mary Martin, campus safety coordinator in Northwest ISD, has been selected as Denton ISD’s new Director of Safety and Security.

A veteran in both education and law enforcement, Ms. Martin brings more than two decades of experience to her role with the district. In addition, Ms. Martin has also previously taught in Denton ISD, serving as an educator at Ryan High School and the LaGrone Academy teaching various law enforcement courses from 2010-2013.

“I am incredibly humbled and grateful to be chosen as Denton ISD’s Director of Safety and Security,” Ms. Martin said. “It is exciting to be back at Denton ISD after teaching at Ryan High School and the LaGrone Academy. I look forward to serving the district and communities in this new capacity.”

As Denton ISD’s Director of Safety and Security, Ms. Martin will be responsible for the supervision of all School Security and Resource Officers. In addition, she will also establish and administer security regulations and procedures to protect students, staff and property.

“Ms. Martin’s connections to our district, as well as her background in law enforcement, make her a valuable addition to Denton ISD,” said Dr. Jeff Russell, Area Superintendent.

Ms. Martin began her career in law enforcement in 2002 as a detention officer with the Denton County Sheriff’s Officer – a role she held for eight years until she joined Denton ISD for the first time in 2010.

In 2013, Ms. Martin once again joined the Denton County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff, serving in a variety of areas including as a School Resource Officer at Northwest High School, a Patrol Officer, Justice Management Bailiff, Denton County Crime Stoppers Coordinator and on the Community Relations Unit.

While she was at the Denton County Sheriff’s Office, Ms. Martin spearheaded the Denton County Crime Stoppers Program training to agencies in Denton County and wrote lesson plans so trainees could receive Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) training hours. In addition, Ms. Martin holds a Master Peace Officer License from TCOLE, as well.

Since 2022, Ms. Martin has served as a campus safety coordinator to the Byron Nelson High School feeder pattern in Northwest ISD. In her role, Ms. Martin supervised 13 facilities and three campus monitors while also serving as a liaison between the campuses and security personnel.
