Blanton Elementary Recognized as Successful Model for Schools Nationwide


Blanton Elementary School was recently identified as a Professional Learning Community (PLC) Model School by Solution Tree, recognizing the campus’ sustained success in raising student achievement. Blanton Elementary is one of roughly 500 schools and districts across the entire United States and Canada to receive this distinction. 

“Receiving the recognition as a Model PLC School is an affirmation of the continuous professional work by our staff,” said Landon Turrubiarte, Blanton Elementary Principal. “We are excited to celebrate this milestone designation as a campus as we continue to pursue professional excellence.”

Schools are recognized based on strict criteria, including demonstration of a commitment to PLC concepts, implementation of these concepts for at least three years and clear evidence of improved student learning over that period. Once measurable results can be seen, the school must explain its practices, structures, and culture and submit its application for consideration by the PLC Review Committee.

Recognized model PLC schools are listed on allthingsplc.info, where they share implementation strategies, structures, and performance with other educators interested in improving their schools. Tools for team collaboration, articles and research about PLCs, blog posts, and other related resources are also available on the site.

“Blanton Elementary is a continuous learning community through and through,” said Dr. Charlene Parham, Area Superintendent of the Guyer High School Zone. “Because they truly embrace the belief in ensuring all students will learn at a high level, Blanton continues to cultivate success. Earning the honor as a model PLC school is a tremendous achievement and recognition of their hard work.”

Model PLC schools demonstrate work in collaborative teams, monitor student learning on a timely basis, create systems of intervention and extension to provide students with additional time and learning support and build teacher capacity to work collaboratively with a focus on improved learning for all students.
