Toby Thomason Selected as Fred Moore High School Principal

Denton ISD has selected Toby Thomason as the next principal of Fred Moore High School, replacing Dr. Fred Younkman, who retired at the end of January.

Mr. Thomason has most recently served as an administrative intern at Fred Moore since 2021. He has spent his entire 12-year career in Denton ISD at Fred Moore and has 15 years of experience in education. In addition, Mr. Thomason also attended Borman Elementary, Calhoun Middle School and Denton High School as a student.

“Having been born and raised in Denton, and having gone to Denton ISD schools as a student, I am greatly honored to have the opportunity to serve Fred Moore High School as its principal,” Mr. Thomason said. “Many Denton ISD educators left an indelible mark on my life, and I look forward to carrying on that tradition. After being part of the Fred Moore family for more than a decade, I can sincerely say that these students have a special place in my heart. I have watched the school grow and evolve over time, and I am excited to lead Fred Moore as we look to the future.”

Mr. Thomason began his career in education as a Spanish teacher and coach in Dallas ISD in 2009. He joined Denton ISD in 2012, and over the next nine years, taught math, Spanish and physical education at Fred Moore.

While teaching at Fred Moore, Mr. Thomason created online, blended and traditional curriculum for Algebra I, Geometry, Math Models, Algebra II, Precalculus, Spanish I, Spanish II and physical education. Mr. Thomason also created individualized learning paths for students while incorporating technology to his lessons to provide students with greater control over their academics.

In 2021, Mr. Thomason transitioned to an administrative intern role at Fred Moore. As an administrative intern, Mr. Thomason managed disciplinary matters, led the 504 program and served on Denton ISD’s Safety and Security Committee.

“Mr. Thomason has served in various capacities at Fred Moore for the past 12 years, and because of that, he intricately understands the fabric of the community and campus,” said Luci Schulz, Area Superintendent. “He has been instrumental in increasing attendance and graduation rates while making an overall positive impact on the campus. Mr. Thomason’s leadership will continue to move Fred Moore forward and provide personalized education for Denton ISD students.”

Mr. Thomason received his bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Illinois at Springfield. He later received his master’s in educational leadership from the University Texas at Arlington.
