Chukwumeziri “Chuks” Orabuchi, an assistant principal at Strickland Middle School, has been named the new principal at Davis School. He replaces Ronnie Watkins, who resigned at the end of the school year to pursue other interests. Mr. Orabuchi will be only the fourth principal to lead the school since it was founded in 2004.
Davis School is home to the district’s disciplinary alternative education program, to help students refocus their behavior and return to their home campus.
“We are excited to have Mr. Orabuchi, another home-grown leader, to lead and impact the lives of the students and staff of Davis School,” said Luci Schulz, area superintendent. “He exemplifies a passion and commitment to creating an environment where students can reach their full potential.”
Mr. Orabuchi has been an assistant principal at Denton ISD since 2022 and before that time, served the district as a Behavior Specialist, coaching administrators and teachers to use positive strategies for behavior intervention.
During that time, he served as a summer school teacher at Newton Rayzor Elementary and a substitute principal at Fred Moore High School, the district’s alternative high school where a student can graduate at an accelerated pace under the guidance of highly qualified classroom teachers.
Previously he worked for nine years in a similar capacity, as a Behavior and Academic Support Educator, in both Frisco ISD and Lewisville ISD.
During his time as a secondary school assistant principal, Mr. Orabuchi served as a member of the Student Code of Conduct Committee, a district CPI instructor, a member of the district’s Strategic Support Plan Committee, and a part of the PULSE – Counseling and Social Work Advisory Council.
Mr. Orabuchi has been a volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club of America, worked with Good Shepard’s Mission as well as served with the City of Lewisville through their Adopt-A-Spot Program, cleaning parks and common areas throughout the city.
“To be able to serve and give back to the community and school district that helped raise me, is a blessing,” said Mr. Orabuchi. “I’m excited to continue the positive influence on our student’s success that Ronnie Watkins and the Davis school staff have established within the district.”
Mr. Orabuchi is a graduate of Guyer High School. He earned his bachelor of arts degree from Sam Houston State University and his masters of educational administration from Grand Canyon University. He holds teaching certifications in EC-12 Special Education and principal certifications in Texas and Arizona. While attending SHSU, he played football for the Bearkats remaining on scholarship including the two years the team was named NCAA Division I AA National Champion Runners-Up.
