David Beaty Named Head Football Coach/Athletic Coordinator at Denton High School
Denton ISD’s Board of School Trustees approved the hire of David Beaty to be Denton High School’s new head football coach and athletic coordinator at a board meeting on Jan. 14.
Most recently the wide receivers coach at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Coach Beaty has nearly 30 years of experience coaching both collegiately and in high school, and from 2015-2018, was the head coach at the University of Kansas. Coach Beaty replaces Billy Miller, who was the head coach at Denton High from 2017-2024.
“My family and I are honored to be at Denton High School,” Coach Beaty said. “This is an unbelievable school district. I am blown away by the quality of people here, and it is the people in an organization that make a place special. We are ready to roll up our sleeves and get going.”
While at Kansas, Coach Beaty led the Jayhawks to their first win over the University of Texas since 1938. In 2017, the Jayhawks had eight players selected to the all-Big 12 team. Linebacker Joe Dineen Jr. also became Kansas’ first Sports Illustrated Second Team All-American since 2007.
Prior to his stint at FAU, Coach Beaty was the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Houston Roughnecks of the then-United States Football League (USFL) in 2022. He served as a consultant for the Longhorns in 2019.
Coach Beaty began his head coaching career at North Dallas High School in 2001. From 2002-2005, he served as the head coach at Irving MacArthur High School.
Before joining the college ranks in 2006, Coach Beaty compiled a 39-15 record as the head coach of North Dallas and Irving MacArthur. He went 10-1 overall at MacArthur in 2004.
In addition to his high school coaching experience, Coach Beaty made stops at Rice University as the offensive coordinator in 2010 and at Kansas as the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach in 2011. From 2012-2014, Coach Beaty was the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M University.
Born in Garland, Coach Beaty graduated from Garland High School. He is married to his wife, Raynee, and they have two daughters, Averie and Alexa.
“Coach Beaty is an incredible coach with a long history of success in both high school and college,” said Joey Florence, Denton ISD Athletic Director. “His ability to connect with students and families will be an incredible asset. We are very excited to have him lead the athletic program at Denton High School.”
