Dr. Sarah Critton Selected as First Principal of Reeves Elementary
Denton ISD has selected Dr. Sarah Critton as the first principal of Reeves Elementary School, which is slated to open August 2025 in the Denton High School attendance zone.
Dr. Critton has most recently served as the principal of E.P. Rayzor Elementary School since 2022. She has 17 years of experience in education and will assume her role at Reeves Elementary after Spring Break.
“I am honored to accept this incredible opportunity at Reeves Elementary,” Dr. Critton said. “I am passionate about serving students, teachers and families, and I am looking forward to continuing to serve our Denton ISD communities in the Denton High Zone.”
Reeves Elementary will be the 28th elementary school in Denton ISD and was funded from the 2023 capital improvement plan that was approved by district voters. The school is named for Anita Reeves, who worked as an educator in Denton ISD for 35 years and was district’s Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2008.
Dr. Critton joined Denton ISD in 2008 as a fourth-grade teacher at W.S. Ryan Elementary. Over the next six years, she also served as a second-grade teacher and gifted and talented specialist at W.S. Ryan.
Following her tenure at W.S. Ryan, Dr. Critton served as a math specialist at Borman Elementary from 2014-2016. In 2017, Dr. Critton joined E.P. Rayzor as the assistant principal – a role she held until 2022, when she became the principal.
While at E.P. Rayzor, Dr. Critton helped the campus become a Professional Learning Community (PLC) Model School by Solution Tree, recognizing the campus’ sustained success in raising student achievement. E.P. Rayzor was one of roughly 500 schools and districts across the entire United States and Canada to receive this distinction.
Dr. Critton received her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of North Texas. She later received her master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Texas at Arlington and her doctorate from Texas A&M University – Commerce.
“Dr. Critton is a visionary campus leader who consistently demonstrates innovation in creating opportunities and addressing challenges,” said Robin Brownell, Area Superintendent of the Denton High School zone. “Her commitment and dedication to prioritizing learning ensures that students, faculty and staff are empowered to grow academically, professionally and personally. We are thrilled to have her lead the Reeves Elementary campus.”
