Covid-19 Update

Dr. Juan Rodriguez from Denton County Health Department provided a brief update on COVID-19 cases. Currently, Denton County has 4615 active cases with a total of 33 deaths. There has been six weeks of continuous growth of COVID cases. The 0-19 is the largest age group of pediatric cases with most cases in the 12–19-year-olds which is about 300 cases or 20% of the current cases. 

The Denton County Health Department is encouraging individuals to receive the vaccine and there is no waitlist. The 12-15 age group are eligible to receive the vaccine.

 

Discussion of Certified Tax Values

Dr. Scott Niven, chief financial officer, and his team led by Jennifer Stewart, Director of Budgeting, present certified property values as determined by the Denton Central Appraisal District and released on July 26, 2021. Mrs. Stewart presented the Board with the property values as determined by the Denton Central Appraisal District that was released on July 26, 2021. Jennifer reviewed the 2021 property value growth as it relates to 2020 Certified and under review values. The 2021 certified values increased $1.8 billion over last year which was a 9.62% increase over the prior year.

2021-2022 Projected Enrollment Update

Susannah O’Bara, Assistant Superintendent for Academic Programs reviewed the current student enrollment numbers as of today which shows a potential enrollment of 32,127.
