    Dr. Buddy Dunworth

    Dr. Buddy Dunworth is a dedicated educator, community leader and retired United States Air Force veteran. He served as a Medical Laboratory Technician in the Air Force from 1995 to 1999 before transitioning to a distinguished career in education.
     
    Dr. Dunworth began his educational career as a middle school teacher in Massachusetts and joined Denton ISD in 1999 as a health science technology teacher, later becoming a chemistry teacher and swim coach at Denton High School.
     
    His administrative journey started in 2005 at Denton High, followed by seven years as assistant principal at McMath Middle School from 2008-2015. He served as an assistant principal of Denton High from 2015-2016 before serving as principal of the Davis School from 2016-2018.
     
    Following his tenure at the Davis School, Dr. Dunworth returned to McMath Middle School as principal – a position he held for six years until his retirement in December 2023.
     
    For 14 years, Dr. Dunworth served as a presenter, trainer and mentor for Denton ISD’s First Year Teacher Academy and was an active member of the Denton ISD Adopt-A-School Business Partnership Program. Additionally, he has represented the district at recruiting fairs and participated as a guest interviewer for administrative interns in collaboration with Dallas Baptist University and Denton ISD.
     
    He served as president of the Denton Public School Administrators Association from 2018 to 2020, having held the vice president role earlier in his career. He was also a guest speaker at the Annual Denton High School ROTC Awards Banquet, delivering inspiring messages on leadership and life choices.
     
    Dr. Dunworth earned his bachelor’s degree in teaching from Westfield State University in Massachusetts in 1993, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Texas Woman’s University in 2005, and a doctoral degree and superintendent certification in education from the University of North Texas in 2018.
     
    Beyond his professional career, Dr. Dunworth has a strong history of community service and leadership that reflects his commitment to education and community development.
    He currently serves as a Board Member for the United Way of Denton County, an organization dedicated to improving lives through education, income and health support, and was honored as the 2019 Ambassador of the Year for his exceptional contributions.
     
    Dr. Dunworth continues to volunteer with Mission Moms and Denton ISD to collect, pack and deliver food and school supplies to families in need. Dr. Dunworth is credited for enhancing campus culture, reducing staff turnover and driving instructional excellence, as well as his dedication to fostering relationships, building community partnerships and giving back to the place he calls home.
     
    A native of Massachusetts, Dr. Dunworth has lived in Denton since 1999 with his wife, Jacqui. His children, Peyton (Class of 2017) and Emma (Class of 2020) are proud Denton ISD alumni. Denton ISD.
