Parent engagement refers to parents actively participating in ongoing communication regarding their child's academic progress and growth. This includes ensuring that parents contribute significantly to their child's educational development, are encouraged to participate actively in their child's school life, and are willing to be valued partners with school personnel during various decision-making processes.
Denton ISD uses Title I, Part A funds to provide school-wide services for all students enrolled in Title I campuses. These campuses are required to adhere to certain requirements outlined by the Texas Education Agency. One of those requirements outlines that campuses must develop and provide parents of students enrolled in any Title I campus with a Parent and Family Engagement Policy and School-Parent Compact.
Parent and Family Engagement Policy
The Parent and Family Engagement Policy outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high standards.
You can find each Title I campus Parent and Family Engagement Policy on their website.
School-Parent Compact
The purpose of the compact is to serve as a clear reminder of all stakeholders’ responsibility to take action at school and at home so that children can attain academic achievement standards. The compact can also serve as a valuable tool to effectively and meaningfully engage the school and the home in supporting the academic development and needs of students.
The Denton ISD School-Parent Compact offers ways that our learning community can work together to help students succeed. The School-Parent Compact links goals of the district improvement plan and provides strategies to help connect learning between school and home.
With the Denton ISD School-Parent Compact, our goals are to:
-
Link to academic achievement goals
-
Focus on student learning
-
Share strategies that staff, parents, and students can use
-
Explain how parents and teachers can communicate about student progress
-
Describe opportunities for parents to engage in their child’s learning
