Telehealth
-
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are excited to announce that Denton ISD has partnered with Children’s Health to offer school-based telehealth at seven of our campuses. With your permission, the nurse can now use video technology to connect your child with a provider at Children’s Health if they become sick at school.
With telehealth your child can be seen by a provider, diagnosed and prescriptions sent to your pharmacy, all without leaving school (current school exclusions still apply). Some conditions that may be seen through telehealth are coughs, colds, sore throats and the flu, as well as headaches, earaches, rashes and pinkeye.
A new enrollment form is required every school year. Please visit www.childrens.com/schools to enroll today, or paper copies of enrollment forms are also available in the front office. If you have any questions, please reach out to your campus nurse.
FAQs About School-Based Telehealth
-
What is Telehealth?
Telehealth uses computer and video technology to connect your child at school to a doctor or nurse practitioner at Children’s Health for diagnosis and treatment.
-
How does it work?
If your child is enrolled and gets sick at school the Nurse will determine if the student meets qualifications for a visit based on telehealth guidelines. Then the parent/guardian will be contacted for permission to conduct a telehealth visit and an appointment will be set up with a provider. Parents are invited to participate in the appointment by phone. The Nurse and the provider will conduct the exam using video technology. After the exam, if necessary, the provider will call in a prescription to your chosen pharmacy and a visit summary will be provided to you and your child’s primary care pediatrician to continue treatment as necessary.
-
Is there a cost?
If you have commercial insurance or Medicaid, Children’s Health will collect and verify your coverage. With Medicare, your visit will be completely covered. No insurance? No problem. We encourage you to continue using telehealth as the bill will be no more than $50. There are discounts available when you pay at time of visit or within the first 14 days.
