Our Mission

It is the mission of the Special Education Services Department to actively respond to the needs of students with disabilities and their families by providing support that will encourage and foster empowerment, independence, and inclusiveness in all aspects of the educational experience in school and beyond.
In Denton Independent School District, each student with a disability has the opportunity to participate in a free, appropriate education designed to meet his or her individual needs. DISD provides a continuum of student-centered, supportive services to meet the needs of eligible students between the ages of 3 and 21 with disabilities. Children who have visual or auditory impairments may receive services at birth. DISD with all aspects of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA 2004).

Significant Disproportionality
- Publicly Report (recommendation to post on the LEA website) if: Significant Disproportionate (SD Year 3) and upon review any revision of policies, practices, and procedures used in the identification or placement in particular education settings, including disciplinary removals are made.
