Is Denton ISD Pre-K open to all children who are 3 or 4 years old?
At this time, universal Pre-K (Pre-K for all) is not an option in Denton ISD. To enroll in state-funded public Pre-K, families must meet certain eligibility requirements and the child must be 4 years old on or before September 1st (3-year-olds will be considered on a campus-by-campus basis depending on space availability). The exception to this is children who qualify for Early Childhood Special Education.
Please visit the Head Start website or call Ann Windle School for Young Children at 940-369-3900 to find out more about Head Start eligibility.
For families who do not meet eligibility requirements for state-funded Pre-K, the Pre-K Academy (Tuition-based pre-kindergarten) program will be offered at select campuses in DISD. The cost is $630 per month. View more information about the Pre-K Academy (Tuition-based Pre-Kindergarten).

Do children need to be potty trained to attend the Denton ISD Pre-K programs?
Per the Texas Education Agency, it is not mandatory that children be fully potty trained before entering a state-funded, public Pre-K program. However, it is highly encouraged that families work diligently on potty training once their child is enrolled, if not before. Our educators will partner with families to support children at school as they work on toileting. Most classrooms (with the exception of our special education programs) are not equipped with changing tables, therefore it is strongly recommended that children wear pull-ups rather than diapers if needed.
Click HERE to visit our potty training page.
All students enrolled in the Pre-K Academy (tuition-based pre-kindergarten) program must be potty trained.
